By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1) Understand anatomic and biomechanical predispositions to injury in the female athlete.
2) Understand how to identify athletes that may be at risk for female athlete triad and relative energy deficiency syndrome (RED-S).
3) Understand common injuries in female athletes and the particular challenges that these athletes face in sports.
4) Understand common injuries of female athletes in the performing arts (dance).

Dr. Kiefer is a board certified family physician with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. She completed her undergraduate training at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and attended medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in Biddeford, ME. Dr. Kiefer completed her family medicine residency St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, IN, and her primary care sports medicine fellowship at ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH. She now works for Community Health Network in Indianapolis, IN. As part of her sports medicine practice she serves as Co-Head Team Physician for the University of Indianapolis as well as Team Physician for Warren Central High School while remaining active in teaching at Community South Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency and Community East Family Medicine Residency.
