Description
The lecture will discuss the 2018 topics of interest in the field of Infectious Diseases that pertain to and are significant to family practitioners and internists in the outpatient and inpatient settings. Summaries of and commentaries on updated screening and treatment guidelines covering topics such as Chronic Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis infections, Clostridium difficile colitis, and Latent Tuberculosis will be discussed. New evidence will be presented on the treatment management of Community-associated Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) skin and soft tissue infections. The emergence of antimicrobial resistance in the United States and the response from The Joint Commission on the new antimicrobial stewardship requirements will also be discussed.

Jon Persichino, DO graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in 2003. He completed his internship, residency, and chief residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Internal Medicine. His training was completed at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with a fellowship in Infectious Diseases.
He currently serves as the Infectious Diseases and HIV consultant at Riverside Medical Clinic, Riverside Community Hospital, and Riverside County Department of Public Health in Riverside, California. He also serves as the Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at Riverside Community Hospital.
He holds academic appointments at Western University of Health Sciences, University of California Riverside School of Medicine, and Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
