Description
In this lecture, Dr. Kiefer will discuss performing joint injections in the office.
Learning Objectives:
1. List indications/contradictions for joint injections.
2. Perform informed consent for joint injections.
3. List indications for injection/aspiration
4. Perform landmark guided injections of:
– Knee
– Greater trochanter
– Pes anserine bursa
– Elbow (medial and lateral epicondylitis)
– Shoulder (subacromial bursa)
– Wrist (carpal tunnel, de Quervain's)
5. Discuss the risks and benefits of different substances for injection (corticosteroids, viscosupplement, PRP/regenerative med)
The Indiana Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.
It is the policy of the IOA that any physician dissatisfied with the CME program will be issued a refund upon request, and no CME credits will be reported to the AOA. Complaints on Evaluation Forms also are taken into consideration when planning future CME programs and may lead to changes in the format or content.

Dr. Kiefer attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN for her B.A. in psychology and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in Biddeford, ME, for her D.O. degree. She completed her family medicine residency at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend and a primary care sports medicine fellowship at ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH. Dr. Kiefer stayed on in Toledo in a combined role at the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Family Medicine Residency serving as the Osteopathic Program Director and at the Primary care Sports Medicine Fellowship where she was an associate director. She also was a team physician for NCAA Division 1 at the University of Toledo for nine years. Since joining Community Health Network, Dr. Kiefer serves as the team physician for Warren Central High School and assists with coverage for the Indy Fuel ice hockey team in the ECHL Western Conference Central Division, the University of Indianapolis, and Franklin Central High School. She also is a member of the Indiana Concussion Network.
