This workshop is a phenomenology of melancholy. Jungian approaches to depression; clinical treatments, societal implications, resistances, suicidal risks and practical techniques will be demonstrated. The 50-minute, prizewinning BBC Documentary "Kind of Blue," narrated by the presenter will be featured.
Educational Objectives:
- To demonstrate patterns of resistance and countertransference in the therapist when working with depressive cases.
- Given a patient, review a variety of psycho-physical levels, differential meanings and therapies of depressive states, and draw recommendations for practice.

James Hillman, PhD, who received his Ph.D. degree from the Univeristy of Zurich, has served as honorary secretary of the International Association for Analytical Psychology and for 10 years was Director of Studies at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich. He has written 12 books and was nomiated for a Pulitzer prize.
