The No Bullsh** Digital Course Boot Camp – Dave Kaminski
Cut Through All The Crap and Learn
How To Do Digital Courses Right The First Time
Have you ever been screwed over by people, until finally you find somebody who knows their sh** and you think “I wish I would have gone to this person in the first place”?
When it comes to digital courses, I’m the guy you wish you would have gone to in the first place. I’ll explain why in just a moment.
But first, digital courses (that means teaching people through video, audio, text or a combination of all) are the hot trend these days. And it’s not hype. There is no faster, cheaper, easier and more lucrative way to make money online.
Plus, if you do it right, you can continually profit from a digital courses for years and years. That means you do the work once and get paid forever.
Of course, when something becomes the “cool thing to do”, a total wave of bullsh** follows. For example…
If You Put a Gun To The Head of Most “Course Experts”
and Told Them To Create and Sell a Course On The Spot,
They’d Just Give Up and Tell You To Pull The Trigger
That’s because they are…in a single word…posers.
Most of the time, they’ve maybe published just one course (usually about making money online), it did okay and then overnight they somehow become a “course expert”. And people who don’t know any better end up paying $1,000+ to learn from them, only to regret it later.
The truth is these experts don’t know sh**. They don’t know video. They don’t know courses. They don’t know graphic design. They don’t know copywriting. And they certainly don’t know tech. They pay other people to do all of that stuff for them.
About all they really know is how to run ads and market. Oh wait. They pay someone to do all that stuff too. It’s basically like a mini version of Hollywood, where “course experts” are the stars who say the lines, but everyone else does the actual work.
Here’s why this is important to you.
Hands down, if you want to sell digital courses online, it’s going to be the tech that bites you in the ass. 100% of the time. Guaranteed. And if you’re not learning how to create and sell digital courses from someone who knows tech inside and out, you’re in for an nightmare ride. Good luck getting help.
When Doctor’s Feel Lousy, This Is What They Take
That’s a classic headline from an old direct response ad. I think it was for Anacin…you know, the pill that combines caffeine and aspirin.
Anyway, there is a greater point to that headline. Let’s get to it.
You see, when course experts (and even regular course creators) have problems, what do they do?
They come to me.
That’s because I’ve been creating, marketing and selling digital courses for 20 years. I have over 150 digital courses under my belt (do the math, that’s an average of 7+ published courses a year). And they cover a spectrum of niches…from animal training, to cake baking, to self-help, to fitness, to marketing, to tech and beyond.
Hell, I created my first “digital” course back in the 90’s. Except it wasn’t digital, it was actually analog (cassette tapes). Imagine learning how to fix computers by listening to cassette tapes. That was my “digital” course. Whatever. It sold.
The point is, people come to me because I know my sh**.
The “course experts” in particular come to me for tech help (that’s my second warning to you of tech being a pain in the ass). They will either hire me to create all of their tech related training videos…or to unfu** the tech they use to sell and deliver their courses.
Here’s why this is important to you. If you had a choice, would you rather learn something directly from the top source on the subject…or from someone who is just repeating what that top source told them? That’s the difference between me and the “course experts”.
I Didn’t Make a Career Out of Creating and Selling
Digital Courses Because “That’s My Degree Field”,
I Did It Because It’s a Damn Good Life
Truth is I don’t even have a degree. Unless you count all the sh** you go through in the United States Marine Corps as a degree. And now that I think of it, you probably should.
Anyway, I said creating and selling digital courses is a damn good life. So let me detail that life for you.
I go to bed and get up whenever I want. Snowing out, roads are bad? Who gives a sh**. I work out of my basement. Or sometimes the kitchen or a bedroom.
A jerk boss? Annoying co-workers? Company politics, drama or idiotic decisions to deal with? Nope. I have none of those. I do what I want, when I want and answer to no one.
Trading time for money? Never. That’s f****** insane. I do the work once and get paid forever.
Going year after year without a raise? No. I alone decide how much money I am paid. And in the digital course world, you just publish a new course whenever you want a raise.
What about vacations or family time? Again, I do what I want, when I want and answer to no one. If I feel like taking a vacation, I take one. If I feel like taking a nap, I do it. My web sites run everything for me day and night. They are my employees. I never have to be physically present in my business.
I can live anywhere I’d like. Digital courses don’t care where you live. Right now, I live in the Midwestern U.S. The winters suck, but the summers are heaven and the cost of living is dirt cheap. When I want to move, I’ll move. As long as I have an Internet connection, I’m in business.
I get to learn. A lot. Whether it’s researching a new market for course ideas or discovering the weird (and often counter-intuitive ways) people purchase things online, my mind is never mush. I’m always learning something new and never repeating the same mindless-ass tasks every day.
The key ingredient in all of these things is freedom. I am free to live my life as I see fit…not live someone else’s life. Freedom, freedom, freedom.
Does it take some discipline? Sure. I could watch TV all day if I wanted to, but I have the discipline not to. And my paycheck is never guaranteed. It’s up to me to create it. But to me, those are things are called responsibility.
And they are small trade-offs in exchange for a life of freedom, me thinks.
No Bullsh** Digital Course Boot Camp
Big surprise, I’m selling a course on how to create and sell digital courses. You couldn’t see that coming, could you?
I actually had no plans on making this course. Then why am I doing it? Because I’ve been contacted an annoyingly-number-of-times by people who have purchased training from other “course experts” who are looking for help.
As gruff and as blunt as I may come across on this web page, the fact of the matter is that I do care about the e-learning and digital course industry. Sh**, I’m one of the dudes who helped build it.
And it’s obvious that most of the training being peddled out there on this matter is over-priced, over-hyped and woefully under-delivers.
So I’m sharing the no bullsh** truth on what it takes and what you have to do to successfully create and sell digital courses.
